Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray caught completely undisguised tooling around Detroit

We know that a hybrid version of the C8 Corvette is coming, and our spy photographers just today caught a glimpse of a prototype on the streets of Detroit wearing no camouflage to hide any body bits.

Wearing a Z06 with the Z07 package body, the E-Ray doesn’t have too many giveaways that it’s something special. The most visual giveaway that this is NOT a Z06 is the rear exhaust, which resembles the base C8 and not the Z06.

Additionally, our spy photographers had a chance to follow the car for 5 miles and can confirm that it doesn’t sound like a Z06 with its raspy, rev-happy, flat plane crank V8.

Hopefully this all means that we’ll see a production version of the car soon. We expect it to be a hybrid version of the 6.2-liter V8 that comes in the standard car. We should see it sometime in 2022 as a new model or C8 for 2023.
