The 2022 GMC Hummer EV is a chonky boi weighing 9,000 pounds: Report

If you didn’t already know, battery-electric vehicles are heavy. Big batteries make up most of that heft and as a result, automakers mount it under the passenger cabin to keep all of the weight as low as possible. Thank goodness for that because the 2022 GMC Hummer EV appears to be quite heavy. If we’re to believe a GMC fleet order guide found by driving.ca, the all-electric utility vehicle will tip the scales at 4,100 kg or 9,046 pounds in Edition 1 guise.

At that weight, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV is heavier than a heavy-duty truck like a Ram 3500HD or a Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. Even a Ford F-450, which tops out at just over 8,500 pounds, is lighter than the GMC Hummer EV by at least 500 pounds. Luckily all of that battery weight is mounted under the passenger floor, which keeps the center of gravity down.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV will use a 24-cell battery from GM’s Ultium family and is estimated to get up to 1,000 hp and 350 miles of range per charge on the pickup. SUV models get a smaller 20-cell battery, resulting in a lower total output of 830 hp and a range of 300 miles on a charge. Both variants will be capable of 800-volt charging and can be used as a power source to charge other EVs or run appliances.
