2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV offers up to 300 miles of range, 830 hp

The second member of the GMC Hummer family has arrived. Meet the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV, an all-electric SUV that promises exceptional on- and off-road capability. Compared to its pickup truck sibling, the Hummer EV SUV has a wheelbase that’s 8.9 inches shorter. As a result, the SUV is 20 inches shorter in length and slightly better approach, departure, and break-over angles at 49.6-, 49.0-, and 34.4 inches respectively. The Hummer EV SUV also has a better turning radius at 35.4 inches with the available four-wheel steering system.

Just like the Hummer EV pickup, the SUV variant rides on General Motors Ultium platform dedicated specifically to battery-electric vehicles. The most powerful variant features up to 830 hp and a GM-estimated 11,500 lb-ft of torque from three electric motors, allowing it to hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. With the largest battery option, the Hummer EV SUV can travel an estimated 300 miles on a charge. Ultium vehicles will also have 800-volt DC fast charging capability. A Power Station generator feature allows owners to use their Hummer EV SUVs to jump-start another EV or power appliances.

However, due to the shorter wheelbase, the SUV’s battery is a 20-module unit instead of 24 like on the pickup. The new platform also puts the cells in the center of the vehicle and is mounted low within the reinforced body structure, which also doubles as a protective layer for the battery. All Hummer EV SUVs will get regeneration on-demand and one-pedal driving allowing you to bring the vehicle to a complete stop by easing off the accelerator. Terrain mode is also featured and uses both regenerative and mechanical braking to provide added control when driving off the beaten path.

You get similar features, too. The removable roof panels are also on the Hummer EV SUV as are all the off-road suspension tweaks. That means you can get four-wheel steering with the Crab Walk feature that lets the vehicle move at an angle, adaptive air suspension, and 22-inch wheels shod in 35-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires. Edition 1 and 3X trims get e-AWD with torque vectoring. The optional Extreme Off-Road package adds underbody protection, skid plates, underbody cameras, 18-inch alloy wheels, 35-inch Goodyear territory MT tires, heavy-duty ball spline half shafts, a front eLocker, and rear virtual lockers.

The 2024 Hummer EV SUV’s interior is similar to its pickup truck sibling. Standard features include a 13.4-inch main touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a digital key function that lets you use your smartphone as a key, a surround-view camera system, and off-road widgets that tell you everything from pitch/roll to ride height and eLocker engagement. Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free semi-autonomous driving assistance feature, is also available and now features automatic lane change capability.

An Edition 1 model with the largest 20-module battery and up to 830 hp will be available in Moonshot Green Matte and with or without the Extreme Off-Road package. The Lunar Shadow interior theme with the Lunar Horizon interior carries over from the Edition 1 pickup. Prices start at $79,995 for the base two-motor EV2 model. The Edition 1 costs $105,595. Adding the Extreme Off-Road package bumps the Edition 1’s sticker price to $110,595. Production will start in early 2023 for the Edition 1 models.
