GMC Hummer EV undergoes more winter testing, date revealed for SUV announcement

GMC continues to put the Hummer EV through its rigorous testing and validation regime to show off its capability. The latest one sees the all-electric truck getting put through its paces in the subzero conditions in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. There, the truck must prove its mettle on slippery surfaces packed with ice and snow to show off the capabilities of its AWD system and traction control systems.

During the testing session, engineers will also evaluate the Hummer EV’s stability control system and fine-tune its calibration. A video included in the release shows a Hummer EV driving through all types of surfaces from snow to a paved area that has ice on top.

Perhaps the biggest news on this latest announcement is the debut of the GMC Hummer EV SUV. This will be the second body style for the all-electric Hummer, which will likely feature the same powertrain options as the truck. GMC will reveal the second member of the Hummer family on April 3.

On that same day, the brand will also open reservations for the new variant. Expect GMC to offer an Edition 1 model with unique design cues just like in the truck but will likely be in limited numbers. Like the truck, the GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 will likely be a loaded model equipped with every option and the largest battery option available.
