Jeep Wagoneer S and Recon EV models to arrive at dealerships this year

While we know to expect the Wagoneer S and Recon Jeep models reasonably soon, we weren’t exactly clear on when the vehicles would actually ship. Now we do.

At a roundtable event attended by EV Pulse on Friday, new Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa provided some valuable information about when these new Jeep models will arrive.

Built on the STLA Large (also referred to as STLA L in Jeep’s presentation) platform, the Wagoneer S is expected to start production during Q2 of the year, going on sale around the start of Q4.

Filosa didn’t provide a start of production date for the Recon, but did say that it would be on sale in dealerships by the end of the year.

When the Wagoneer S arrives, it’ll be a shortened 2024 model year version, with the Recon arriving as a 2025 model.

Filosa said that he wants to offer choice to customers regarding powertrain options, but has not changed course on the Wagoneer S or Recon’s all-electric architecture.

He is researching other options for future Jeep vehicles, including adopting the parallel-hybrid system from the upcoming Ramcharger. While Filosa said he’s exploring all options, he would not commit to anything in the future.

Filosa is also bringing Wagoneer into the Jeep fold, including the S, and badging them as Jeep models going forward. Filosa also said that he liked the name Wagoneer for the upcoming S model, even though it sits underneath the Grand Cherokee in size, so he kept it.

Jeep currently has no new B segment vehicle at the moment, with the discontinuation of the Renegade, but Filosa again reiterated that the global Avenger — a sales success in his eyes — wouldn’t make sense for U.S. consumers. We’re not so sure, considering Volvo is bringing a similarly-sized EX30 to North America this year, but we also haven’t seen sales numbers yet on that.

Filosa isn’t pleased with Jeep’s market share, and spent his first 90 days on the job preparing to steer the ship in the direction to better capitalize on the legendary nameplate and grow marketshare.

We know we look forward to seeing what electrified Jeep options Filosa has in store.
