The 2022 Porsche Taycan gets several meaningful updates to improve the quality of life and driving experience. Quite possibly one of the most important ones is the addition of Android Auto compatibility to the PCM interface. However, you must plug your phone into the USB-C port. Porsche has also improved the voice commands so that it understands everyday language better. The built-in navigation calculates your route quicker and has redesigned graphics so that information is displayed more clearly. The shortcuts to submenus on the left side of the display have also been increased to five from three.
Another significant addition to the 2022 Porsche Taycan is the Turbo Charging Planner. This enables the battery to get heated to a slightly higher temperature, allowing the car to DC charge at higher rates sooner and cut the overall time you spend plugged in. Excess heat from the electrical components is also used to better regulate battery temperatures. Don’t expect this to reflect additional range, though. Porsche doesn’t expect the EPA or WLTP estimates to change the Taycan’s official range estimates for the 2022 model year.
If you’re looking to remotely park your Taycan, you can do it now. The Remote Park Assist feature lets you control the car’s parking maneuvers via your smartphone. This enables you to park the vehicle without needing to sit behind the wheel and will even squeeze into a parallel or perpendicular spot. Sensors and cameras on the outside of the Taycan are used to measure parking spaces to make sure it fits in them. If it does, the driver can get out and use the Porsche Connect app to remotely control the car. The car will take over all steering functions while the driver can move it forward or back by pressing and holding the buttons shown on the app. If you let go of the button you’re pressing, the vehicle will immediately stop.
Finally, Porsche has further expanded the selection of exterior colors with several fan favorites. Rubystar and Acid Green are just two of those options. Many of the colors made available on the Taycan came from the 964-generation 911 from the 1990s and are making a comeback. Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur will offer Paint-to-Sample and Paint-to-Sample Plus on the Taycan on top of the 17 available colors. Over 65 choices are available under the Paint-to-Sample program. This includes colors like Viola Metallic, Riviera Blue, Acid Green, Rubystar, and Moonlight Blue Metallic. Opting for Paint-to-Sample Plus, on the other hand, will give you complete freedom on the exterior color of your Taycan.
When it goes on sale before the end of the year, the 2022 Porsche Taycan will be offered in both sedan and Cross Turismo wagon variants. The latter launched with the larger 93.4-kWh and a dual-motor setup across the board. Sedan models will be able to get a smaller 79.2-kWh battery in the standard and 4S models. RWD is also available on the standard Taycan sedan. These two are also rated highest by the EPA when it comes to driving range at 227 miles for the 4S and 225 miles for the standard Taycan. The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S are rated for 212 and 201 miles respectively. In return, you get incredible performance from the top two versions and a sub-3.0-second 0 to 60 mph time.
