2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean Edition is all about sustainable luxury

To celebrate the launch of the 2022 Flying Spur Hybrid, Bentley has unveiled a limited-edition model called the Odyssean Edition. This takes cues from the EXP 100 GT concept car that showed off the brand’s idea of luxury mobility in 2035 with its new hybrid sedan being the first step toward that. The 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean Edition features sustainable materials with lots of exclusive touches to show off its eco-friendly credentials.

The focus on sustainability sees lots of neat new production methods used in crafting the 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Odyssean Edition. Tweed made from 100 percent British wool results in a unique type of textile especially made for Bentley. Koa wood veneer fascia and wastrails use 90 percent less lacquer than high-gloss ones and allow the natural surface texture to be the highlight. In total, there are only three thin layers of lacquer painted on the wood and it’s only 0.1 mm thick. Even the leather upholstery used inside the cabin is sustainably sourced and promise to have good long-term durability. A new hide option called Autumn will be available in combination with five leather colors, Beluga, Porpoise, Cricketball, Brunel, and Burnt Oak together with Linen hide. You also get unique Odyssean Edition side sills matched with badging on the D-pillar. The embroidery used in the cabin is also exclusive to the Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean Edition featuring a “lofted diamond” pattern. The standard floor mats with contrast bindings can also be upgraded to lamb’s wool rugs.

On the outside, the Flying Spur Odyssean Edition gets 21-inch alloy wheels with 10 twin spokes, lots of exterior chrome trim, and Pale Brodgar accents. Six curated exterior colors will be recommended to complement the unique exterior touches but Bentley’s full palette is available for customers. The Flying Spur Odyssean Edition also gets additional standard features including a power-retractable hood ornament, LED puddle lights, three-dimensional diamond leather upholstery, the rotating display, interior ambient lighting, and a leather headliner. Additionally, a full suite of driver assistance technologies, which includes night vision, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, a head-up display, emergency lane change assist, and a full array of collision prevention features. Flying Spur Hybrid owners will be able to use the My Bentley app to check car statistics, initiate charging, heat or cool the cabin, and look for the nearest charging stations.

Power comes from a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 coupled to an electric motor, a 14.1-kWh battery, and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The combined output is 526 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Bentley says the Flying Spur Hybrid can hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and has a total range of 435 miles on a full tank and charge. In EV mode, the car can travel up to 25 miles. Using a level 2 AC charger, the battery can be fully charged in as little as 2.5 hours.

The 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid is the second plug-in hybrid model from the British brand following the Bentayga Hybrid. It is part of Bentley’s plan to offer only plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles by 2026 and aims to make luxury more environmentally friendly.
