2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid is the brand’s second electrified model

The 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid marks the second addition to the British brand’s electrified vehicle lineup. It follows the Bentayga Hybrid, which was the first electrified Bentley model. Like its crossover sibling, the Flying Spur Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid and is part of Bentley’s Beyond 100 strategy, which aims to electrify the whole lineup and make the brand a sustainable carbon-neutral company.

Powering the 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid is a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 coupled to an electric motor, an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a 14.1-kWh electric motor. The engine alone makes 410 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque while the electric motor is good for 134 hp and 295 lb-ft. Together, the powertrain’s combined output is 536 hp and 553 lb-ft, enabling the Flying Spur Hybrid to hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, which is only 0.1 seconds slower than the V8-powered version. In the WLTP cycle, the big luxury sedan has a total range of 700 km or 435 miles. When operating EV mode, Bentley says the Flying Spur Hybrid can travel up to 25 miles. Depending on the region, you can fully charge the battery in 2.5 hours using a level 2 AC charger.

Four drive modes will be available in the Flying spur Hybrid. In addition to EV Drive, you get Hybrid mode, which maximizes range and efficiency by using the navigation system to anticipate changes in the road ahead. It will also give you the most efficient route if you are navigating to your destination, coast in EV mode when possible, and use the battery’s energy only when needed. Hold Mode keeps the battery’s charge at the level it’s at so you can use it at a later time. Sport mode maximizes performance and provides consistent levels of electric motor usage and energy recuperation. Bentley will also offer to install a home charging station with a Bentley-branded wall box as a no-cost option.

As part of an expanded connected car services program, owners will be able to access key data and functions via the My Bentley app. In certain regions, you can use the app to lock the vehicle and find where you parked it. Features specific to the Flying Spur Hybrid include My Battery Charge, which lets you remotely initiate vehicle charging as long as you have it plugged in. This allows you to better plan your charging times. My Car Statistics give you an overview of vehicle data such as the distance of your last trip, average speed, travel times, and your average fuel and electricity consumption. Finally, My Cabin Comfort allows you to use the My Bentley app to cool or heat the cabin to a specific temperature ahead of your drive.

In typical Bentley fashion, there are is an extensive portfolio of customization options for the 2022 Flying Spur Hybrid. Mulliner, Bentley’s personalization arm, will also be able to assist owners in making sure their Flying Spur Hybrid is as unique as possible. The Blackline Specification is also offered, swapping out all the brightwork for black exterior accents and a black retractable Flying B hood ornament. You’ll also be able to choose from a range of 20-, 21- and 22-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Bentley offers extensive customizability including up to 15 interior hide colors and two-tone themes. The 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid will be built in Crewe, U.K., which the brand touts as the first carbon-neutral luxury car manufacturing facility. Order books open this summer with the first deliveries expected to occur before the end of 2021.
