Mercedes-Benz launches the first fully electric G-Class with advanced off-road capabilities

The new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology introduces the first fully electric variant of the iconic G-Class, merging classic design elements with cutting-edge technology. The vehicle features a ladder frame construction modified to accommodate electric drive components, including four independently controlled electric motors positioned near the wheels, offering a combined output of 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque. This setup enables advanced off-road capabilities and distinct driving functionalities like the G-TURN and G-STEERING.

The G 580’s 116-kWh lithium-ion battery is integrated within the ladder frame, enhancing the vehicle’s low center of gravity and rigidity while providing a significant electric range. It is encased in a robust, torsion-resistant shell that, along with underbody protection made from mixed materials including carbon, safeguards against environmental elements. The vehicle’s aerodynamics are further optimized through design modifications such as a raised hood and flared rear wheel arches equipped with air curtains.

Inside, the Mercedes-Benz G 580 boasts the latest MBUX infotainment system, featuring dual 12.3-inch displays for both the driver and central multimedia interface, and standard luxury amenities including Nappa leather steering wheel and advanced safety systems. For 2025, this model will be available exclusively in the U.S. as the EDITION ONE special edition, which comes with expanded features and unique design elements.

The all-new electric G-Class not only preserves but enhances the off-road legend’s performance capabilities, now adapted for electric mobility. It promises high stability across varying terrains, enabled by its intelligent drive system and comprehensive torque distribution through virtual differential locks and torque vectoring.
