Lookin’ good: Jeep teases all-electric Wagoneer S

Well, that didn’t take long. Less than two weeks ago, Stellantis unveiled its new STLA Large platform, an architecture designed to underpin a range of D- and E-segment vehicles around the world. On Tuesday, the multinational automaker shared a handful of teaser images of the Jeep Wagoneer S, an all-electric SUV based on STLA Large. How ’bout that?

This will be the Jeep brand’s first global all-electric SUV. According to the automaker, this machine will feature premium materials, meticulous craftsmanship and plenty of technology. Expect the Wagoneer S to have a special driver control center with the off-road brand’s signature Selec-Terrain toggle. There will also be driver-adjustable ambient lighting.

As with other Jeeps, which can be far more premium than many might expect for such rough-and-tumble vehicles, the Wagoneer S will feature a standard dual-pane sunroof and it will offer a 19-speaker McIntosh premium audio system.

Aside from all that, what can we glean from these teaser images? Quite a lot, actually. For starters, the Wagoneer S is proportioned like a Jeep, with a tall stance, big wheels and clean overall styling. Both the greenhouse and side view mirror housings resemble the stylish Grand Cherokee’s, there are recessed door handles to help improve aerodynamics and there’s an unusual wing at the back; it has a large opening and extends a good bit over the rear glass. Of course, if that’s not enough, there’s also a small spoiler on the rear that runs nearly the width of the hatch. If one wing is good, more must be better, right?

A clear view of this SUV’s front has not been provided, but it appears to have a somewhat concave grille, and there are very squinty headlamps accented by narrow light bands at the top. Perhaps these are the daytime running lamps.

Inside, we see more familiar Jeep cues. The dashboard looks like it could have been plucked from a Grand Cherokee. Four displays are visible in the photo, including a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen, a panel for the front seat passenger to play with and a final screen ahead of the center console for adjusting the climate controls and other vehicle functions.

Now, aside from its underpinnings and a few of the features that will be offered, we don’t know anything else about the upcoming Wagoneer S. When this SUV will go on sale, what kind of performance it will offer and how much this thing is going to cost all remain mysteries. Still, based on the provided photos, this vehicle looks exceedingly stylish and unexpectedly upscale.
