Lamborghini unveiled an innovative technology concept at CES in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Telemetry X is the Italian automaker’s new track connectivity system that monitors biometric data, can provide drivers with remote coaching and even includes a digital cockpit.
Telemetry X is all about improving the on-track driving experience. One of the most innovative features included in this system is called Remote Garage. Powered by 5G connectivity, this web-based program provides Lamborghini owners with live video recordings of their closed-circuit exploits. While running hot laps, images and data can be remotely analyzed – in real time, no less – by a coach who can provide drivers with instant feedback during hot lap sessions. This can help owners build confidence and become better drivers, both on track and off.
“It’s no coincidence that we chose the Revuelto as the testbed for this technological demonstrator, a car that is totally unique precisely because of the introduction of breakthrough technologies,” noted Lamborghini’s chief technical officer, Rouven Mohr, in a media release shared by the automaker. “Telemetry X is a clear demonstration of how experience gained in motorsport can find applications for road-going super sports cars, with the aim of maximizing our customers’ experience on the track as well.”
Building on Remote Garage, Telemetry X also collects certain biometric data from drivers, including heart rate and stress levels. With this information, the system can provide more useful and complete performance monitoring to further refine training.
Remote Garage and the Biometric Data System both work with something called Digital Co-Pilot, which is a voice assistant that provides real-time feedback to drivers. This technology can analyze lap times and deliver useful pointers to help improve on-track performance.
“Innovation is at the core of our DNA, as we have recently demonstrated with the Revuelto, a super sports car that is groundbreaking in every way, and the Lanzador fully electric concept car,” said Stephan Winkelmann, chairman and CEO of Lamborghini, in a media release shared by the automaker. Continuing, he noted, “In the near future, our supercars will increasingly offer not just thrills but truly immersive driving experiences. Telemetry X is a perfect preview of the connected services our customers will be able to experience in the coming years.”
Telemetry X is a promising technology, one that’s almost certainly destined to enter production. According to the hallowed Italian automaker, this system can be applied to future vehicles, and we’d bet it absolutely will.
