Genesis is about to show its first battery-electric vehicle at the 2021 Shanghai auto show and it looks like it’ll be a variant of an existing model. The brand released a teaser on Instagram giving us a glimpse of the front end. Based on the grille design, pattern, and headlights, this may be the long-rumored G80e.

The G80e will be the first of a full range of EVs for the Genesis brand. This also includes all-electric versions of the GV80, GV70, the next G90, the upcoming GV90, and the GV60. So far, only the GV60 is known to be underpinned by the Hyundai Motor Group’s new E-GMP platform. It is not known if the other models will be on that architecture or use the same underpinnings as their internal combustion variants.

Every vehicle in Genesis’ lineup will have an EV variant as part of Hyundai Motor Group’s plan to launch up to 23 all-electric models across its three brands by 2025. There’s no word yet on the G80e’s battery size but we’re suspecting it’ll be at least 72- to 80 kWh. Expect the G80e to also be the most powerful version of the sedan when it arrives.

Later this year, the Genesis GV60 is expected to follow the G80e. That vehicle will be closely related to the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 because it’s on the E-GMP platform.
