Videos like these don’t help the cause for Tesla “Full Self Driving”

Right now you can purchase a software update for any new Tesla that unlocks a feature called “Full Self Driving.” While the name would suggest that the car can drive itself, that is definitely not the case.

The Tesla owners manual even states so. “Navigate on Autopilot does not make driving autonomous. You must pay attention to the road, keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times, and remain aware of your navigation route.”

Tesla claims that the hardware suite currently on board a new Tesla is capable of, in the future, being fully autonomous. Once the software is ready, “Full Self Driving” will truly become full self driving and the car will drive itself.

But with the feature named the way it is, along with the standard driver assistance suite being called Autopilot, people make assumptions about what the system is capable of.

Other people want to be idiots on the internet.

The problem is that videos like these aren’t helping the cause. Videos like these catch the attention of organizations like NHTSA who are looking for excuses to shut the whole thing down.

Also, people are going to see videos like these and get themselves killed. Whether it’s on accident or as a result of trying to be TikTok famous, people are incorrectly using the system.

This man is going to be in for a big surprise when his car doesn’t see the box truck in front of him.

Now this person just wants to be dead. Bypassing all the blocks to prevent this from actually happening, all to get likes on TikTok. It’s funny how TikTok flags the video as dangerous, but doesn’t actually pull it.

Dear TikTok, you should pull it.

As a safety stan, there needs to be an active driver monitoring system. I know that there are Tesla stans who disagree. But everyone else on the road doesn’t agree to the beta software license agreement.

Killing yourself is one thing, but some of these folks are putting other peoples’ lives in danger and that’s wrong.

It’s also hurting the cause. The more stuff like this happens, the more likely the government will intervene.

If you really want the tech to advance forward from Tesla, you need to support active driver monitoring.
