Lucid Air luxury sedan prices cut by thousands

On Thursday, Lucid announced new pricing for its all-electric Air luxury sedan. The startup automaker has slashed prices by thousands of dollars.

The entry-level, rear-wheel-drive Lucid Air Pure now kicks off at around $71,400 including destination fees, which are $1,500. That’s a reduction of $7,500, a substantial amount to be certain. Trumpeted as the most aerodynamic car on the market today, this model provides up to 410 miles of range, a fantastic figure for any EV, let alone a base model.

Stepping up the ladder, the midlevel Touring trim now kicks off at about $79,400 with destination. This gets you 411 miles on a full charge, a staggering 620 horsepower and an estimated 0-to-60 time of just 3.4 seconds.

And finally, there’s the Lucid Air Grand Touring, an 819-hp middle finger pointed directly at the Tesla Model S. This trim provides an estimated 516 miles of range and is priced from about $111,400 including delivery, a steep figure to be certain.

Unfortunately, pricing for the ultra-high-performance Air Sapphire model does not appear to have been reduced. This rarefied variant starts at more than a quarter-million dollars. Yeah, bring your checkbook if you’re interested in owning one of these… and maybe your first born, too.

Aside from lower sticker prices, Lucid is also working to make the EV life just a little easier for its customers. The automaker is now providing a $1,000 allowance that drivers can use to purchase, as the company describes it, a charging accessory; this, of course, includes Lucid’s own home charging station. Free scheduled vehicle maintenance is also included now, which is good for the first two years of ownership or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The Lucid Air is a shockingly good luxury sedan. The car looks great, offers loads of technology, is wonderful to drive and has far more interior and storage space than you’d ever expect for a vehicle of this class. By slashing prices, providing an allowance to purchase a charger and including free scheduled maintenance, Lucid is aiming to broaden the appeal of this stylish four-door, and hopefully more drivers will consider purchasing an Air.
