Google and Ford partner for in car infotainment, cloud services, Google apps

Ford is working with Google for updated infotainment and cloud services in future Ford vehicles. This includes running Google’s native Android OS in future vehicles, marking a change from the company’s current SYNC offerings.

A new six-year partnership was just announced between both companies, and will make Google the exclusive cloud platform provider for Ford. This will assist in the company’s efforts to unlock personalized experiences for customers and potential customers.

Additionally, Ford’s infotainment systems will run on Android. If you’ve driven a Polestar 2 or the Volvo XC40 Recharge, you’ll have experienced what an infotainment system can be like with Google baked in.

“As Ford continues the most profound transformation in our history with electrification, connectivity and self-driving, Google and Ford coming together establishes an innovation powerhouse truly able to deliver a superior experience for our customers and modernize our business,” said Jim Farley, President and CEO of Ford.

Expect to see more news out of this partnership as time continues, and expect to see some vehicles with the new infotainment software making its way to vehicles in 2023.
