AMG-Tuned Mercedes-Benz EQS caught testing at the Nürburgring

When Mercedes-Benz first unveiled the 2022 EQS, it announced that it was considering a more potent variant to slot above the EQS 580. Well, we now have evidence that the German brand is working on a hotter version because spy photographers have caught it testing at the Nürburgring. This version is expected to get upward of 600 hp from its dual-motor configuration.

Other than more power, the AMG-tuned EQS should get a host of cosmetic upgrades. The front and rear fascia should get subtle changes to differentiate them from the standard models. Quite possibly the biggest giveaway from the spy shots that this EQS isn’t your average prototype are the massive AMG carbon-ceramic brakes with yellow calipers. This particular vehicle is also wearing what appears to be 21-inch black alloy wheels commonly available as an option on full AMG models or as part of the AMG appearance packages on more pedestrian Mercedes-Benz cars and crossovers.

Based on the output that Mercedes-Benz projected at the launch of the EQS, the AMG-badged EQS is aiming straight at the upcoming Tesla Model S Plaid. With standard AWD, this big sedan will offer mind-boggling straight-line acceleration while an upgraded suspension should enable it to corner better than any car of its size has the right to. Expect the hot EQS to feature an AMG-tuned air suspension, adaptive dampers, and stickier tires to further push its performance potential into supercar territory.
