The last thing you want to think about when you’re caught in a sudden downpour when you’re out cruising in your Tesla. Windshield wipers, though, are typically not something a driver gives much thought to – until you need to use them and they don’t perform as they should.
Whether your beef with windshield wipers is that the ones on your Tesla are squeaking with every swipe or if they’re leaving a thin layer of rain or debris and obstructing your view, you need to buy the best wipers for your Tesla.
Having the best windshield wipers shouldn’t be considered a “nice to have” but should be an essential part of the safe operation of your Tesla.
We did some research for you and surfed Amazon and other sites to see what Tesla drivers felt were the “best” and what windshield wipers to potentially avoid. Ultimately it’s your decision to make, but hey, we’ve taken away some of the footwork for you so you can get back out on the road in your Tesla!
During our windshield wiper research we looked at:
- Consumer tests
- Customer ratings
- Reputation in the industry
- Style of the blades
We found xTechnor wiper blades for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y (they also have blades for the Model Y, too) were rated 4.5 stars out of 5 on Amazon by more than 200 customers.
The windshield wiper blades received high ratings for:
- Ease of installation
- Value for the money
- Longevity – although this was on the low end (averaging 3.7 stars)
Consumers who’d purchased the xTechnor windshield wiper blades said, “they work great” are “totally satisfied” and “were a perfect fit and OEM (original equipment manufacturer) replacement.”
The cons noted for these Tesla Model 3 blades indicated, “loud, squeaks nonstop and skips over glass” and “streaking and squeaking.”
The Bosch ICON 280E windshield wiper blades has close to 30,000 consumer ratings with an average 4.6 stars out of 5. Impressive, right?
Let’s look a little deeper at what Tesla drivers thought about the wiper blades. They were highly rated on:
- Ease of installation (4.6 stars)
- Sheerness (4.5 stars)
- Noise level and value for the money (4.5 stars each)
- Longevity (4.2 stars)
One reviewer noted that after less than a month the wiper blades started streaking. A call to Bosch, he reported, found that because the blades sit in the Amazon warehouse for so long, they lose their flexibility. Bosch recommended buying directly from them to ensure quality blades – buyer beware on Amazon? You decide.
One reviewer noted their vehicle has three blades and two of the Bosch blades work well, but the 24-inch blade that is on the driver’s side window streaks and squeaks. The reviewer said the 16 inch and 20-inch blades were ideal but the 24 inch was disappointing.
Many commenters on the Tesla Motors Club recommended the Bosch 280E and 180E for their Tesla.
The best value for your windshield wiper dollar was ANCO 31-Series. The wiper blades received 4.5 stars out of more than 7,500 reviewer comments.
Seventy-three percent of the reviewers gave the ANCO blades for the Tesla five-star reviews.
The benefits mentioned by reviewers included:
- Ease of installation
- Sheerness (3.9 stars)
- Longevity (only 3.7 stars)
One reviewer noted the ANCO blades are “not your father’s wiper blades” and noted the blades are plastic and snap easily and were cheaply made. “Squeaky” and “spotty” were also noted as disadvantages to this brand.
We haven’t personally tested these blades on our Tesla, but from our research, they seem to be the highest-rated, even though there are drawbacks noted by some of the reviewers.
You can buy replacement windshield wiper blades on the Tesla site and keep all your vehicle accessories manufacturer produced. Tesla recommends replacing the wiper blades at least annually. The Tesla site also recommends only using replacement blades that are “identical to” the original blades because using inappropriate blades can damage the wiper system and the windshield.
