The Jeep Willys Dispatcher: A nod to the past with a gaze to the future

The Jeep brand announced its participation in the 58th annual Easter Jeep Safari, taking place from March 23 to 31, 2024, in Moab, Utah. This year, Jeep will showcase four new concept vehicles that combine striking design with functional capabilities. The event is a significant gathering for Jeep enthusiasts, drawing over 20,000 attendees annually to celebrate the heritage and innovation of this leading 4×4 brand. Bill Peffer, the senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America, highlighted the event as an ideal platform for unveiling new Jeep concepts that showcase advancements in electrification and performance.

Among the concepts introduced is the Jeep Willys Dispatcher, a vehicle that pays homage to the post-war civilian Jeeps with a modern twist. This concept is based on the Wrangler 4xe and features a blend of classic design elements and contemporary off-road technology. The exterior of the Willys Dispatcher concept sports a vintage look, with 36-inch Super Traxion tires on 16-by-7-inch alloy wheels designed to resemble traditional steel wheels. It also features a custom front bumper equipped with a new 8274 Warn winch and additional classic accents. The vehicle’s paint, a custom shade of Element 115 Green, is complemented by cream-colored wheels, further enhancing its retro appeal.

The interior of the Willys Dispatcher includes custom distressed saddle leather and houndstooth cloth inserts, along with a design that echoes the vintage charm of early Jeeps. Practical features like a JPP bikini top and rugged vinyl floor covering ensure durability and comfort in various weather conditions. The vehicle is equipped with a JPP onboard air compressor, useful for adjusting tire pressures during off-road adventures.

Powering the Willys Dispatcher is a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid 4xe propulsion system, delivering 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Dana 50 Advantech front and rear axles, ensuring the vehicle’s performance matches its rugged aesthetics.
