Rolls-Royce has introduced a unique commission called the Spectre Lunaflair, created for a private client from the United States. The design of this one-off vehicle is inspired by a natural phenomenon known as a lunar halo, which is produced when moonlight passes through ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds, resulting in a colorful ring around the moon.
The most notable feature of the Spectre Lunaflair is its bespoke holographic paint finish, which took over a year to develop. The paint process involved detailed experimentation with various elements such as paint chemistry, application timing, and the base coat. The final result consists of seven layers of lacquer, including a specially formulated pearlescent coat infused with fine flakes of magnesium fluoride and aluminum. This formulation allows the paint to appear as a deep metallic under low light and transform into a rainbow-like technicolor effect when exposed to bright sunlight.
This commission was influenced by another Rolls-Royce creation, the one-of-one Phantom Syntopia, introduced in 2023. The Phantom Syntopia featured a dark, iridescent finish with color-shifting properties. The client for the Spectre Lunaflair was inspired by this design and requested a lighter, more luminous version that would reflect their interest in the lunar halo phenomenon.
The interior of the Spectre Lunaflair is also bespoke, featuring a color scheme of Navy Blue, White, and Peony Pink, reminiscent of the colors seen during a lunar halo. These tones are integrated throughout the seats, doors, and Starlight Headliner, as well as on the dual-tone steering wheel, which has a Navy outer side and an Arctic White inner side.
Only one Spectre Lunaflair will be manufactured, and the unique Lunaflair paint finish is reserved exclusively for the client who commissioned the vehicle. The photography of this model was taken on September 17th in the United States, during a Supermoon event that coincided with a partial lunar eclipse.
