Polestar’s latest EV gets even better

Polestar is actively enhancing the Polestar 3, its first software-defined vehicle from Europe, as part of its commitment to continuous updates throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle. Since the initial delivery of the Polestar 3 in June 2024, the company has implemented nine software updates. Additionally, across its entire vehicle lineup, Polestar has delivered over 30 over-the-air (OTA) software updates since the launch of the Polestar 2 in 2020.

The latest OTA update introduces new features, including walk-away locking and digital key functionality for select devices. This digital key allows users to unlock, lock, or start their vehicle without needing to take their smartphone out of their pocket. The functionality can be shared across different platforms.

Michael Lohscheller, the CEO of Polestar, stated, “With our over-the-air updates we can continue to make our cars better over time, and with the latest updates for Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 we’ve done just that. Our customers asked for digital key functionality, and so we delivered, and we’ll continue to add value for our customers over the lifetime of their cars.”

OTA updates not only enhance applications and features but also improve driving attributes and active safety systems. The Polestar 3, equipped with a centralized core computing system, allows for extensive updates.

For the 2026 model year, the Polestar 3 will be upgraded from its current NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Xavier processor to the more advanced NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor. This hardware upgrade will be provided at no cost to existing Polestar 3 customers, aligning with the brand’s commitment to enhancing the user experience over time.

Lohscheller further noted, “Polestar 3, the first software-defined vehicle from Europe, gets even more brain power. The ability to upgrade the hardware of our cars when new technologies become available is the perfect demonstration of our commitment to deliver the very best ownership experience to our customers. With the Orin processor upgrade, the already outstanding Polestar 3 gets even better.”

The hardware upgrade will be conducted at authorized Polestar service points, with customers being notified when the new processor is available for installation.

In addition, Polestar is set to be among the first companies, alongside Volvo, to implement Google’s Car Ready Mobile Apps program. This initiative aims to facilitate the distribution of large screen optimized mobile applications for car displays. Polestar drivers will have access to various new applications while parked, including games and streaming services. These applications are currently available on the Polestar 2 and are expected to be accessible on the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 later this year.
