Prototypes of BMW’s next-generation iX3 are completing final tests at the Miramas proving ground in southern France ahead of its world premiere at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. Production will begin late this year at BMW’s new Debrecen plant in Hungary. As the first series model of BMW’s Neue Klasse, the iX3 introduces core innovations designed to elevate efficiency, connectivity and driving dynamics across all future BMW models.
A standout feature is the BMW Panoramic iDrive display and operating concept, which projects critical information across a panoramic windscreen area and into a 3D head-up display, while a free-cut central screen and haptic steering-wheel controls keep eyes on the road. Underpinning performance is the sixth-generation electric drive (Gen6) and a high-voltage battery with 20% higher energy density. The iX3 50 xDrive boasts up to 800 km range (WLTP) and can add more than 350 km of range in just 10 minutes at 400 kW charging stations. An intelligent charging flap even opens automatically at familiar charge points.

Driving precision comes from the new “Heart of Joy” control computer and BMW Dynamic Performance Control, which process inputs ten times faster than before for intuitive handling and nearly all-regenerative braking down to a standstill. The iX3 also debuts extensive bidirectional charging capabilities—Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Grid—and a streamlined electronics architecture with four high-performance “superbrains” for automated driving, voice control and over-the-air updates.
