Mercedes-Benz recalls EQB models over battery fire risk

Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall affecting certain models of the EQB due to a potential safety issue with the battery. The recall, identified by NHTSA Campaign Number 25V050000, includes the 2022-2024 EQB 250, EQB 300 4MATIC, and EQB 350 4MATIC models. The concern arises from the possibility of the battery failing internally, which could result in a fire occurring while the vehicle is either parked or in motion.

A total of approximately 7,362 units are believed to be affected by the recall. As a precautionary measure, owners of the impacted vehicles are advised to limit their charging to a maximum of 80 percent capacity until the necessary repairs can be made. The remedy involves dealers updating the battery management system software at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Notification letters will be sent to owners starting April 1, 2025. For further assistance, owners can reach out to the Mercedes-Benz customer service line at 1-800-367-6372. Additionally, inquiries can be directed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or through their website at nhtsa.gov.
