EVgo Inc., a leading public fast-charging network in the United States, and General Motors have announced an expanded collaboration to address the growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The two companies will deploy 400 new fast-charging stations at key locations across major metropolitan areas in the U.S., including states such as Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas.
These flagship stations will feature high-capacity 350kW fast chargers, along with enhanced features like canopies, security cameras, and pull-through designs for easy access. Each site will offer up to 20 charging stalls, though some locations may have more. The stations will be strategically placed near amenities such as retail shops, restaurants, and coffee outlets, enabling drivers to use these services while their vehicles are charging. Co-branded by EVgo and GM Energy, these locations are designed to set a new standard for EV charging, offering a reliable and user-friendly experience.
Dennis Kish, president of EVgo, emphasized that the future of EV charging involves larger locations, faster charging, and a focus on user convenience. These new flagship stations are part of EVgo and GM’s effort to meet the needs of a growing EV market, by improving access to efficient and dependable charging solutions in high-demand areas.
The first of these new stations is expected to open in 2025. EVgo will utilize prefabricated construction methods to accelerate build times and allow for future expansion. According to GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer, this initiative is a continuation of the company’s goal to provide seamless and reliable charging access for EV drivers, supporting their evolving needs as EV adoption increases.
In addition to the flagship stations, EVgo and GM are continuing their broader efforts to expand their metropolitan charging network. Together, they are working toward the installation of 2,850 DC fast charging stalls. In August 2023, the companies marked the opening of their 1,000th fast charging stall and aim to reach 2,000 by the end of 2024.
