Lucid Group, Inc. held its Technology & Manufacturing Day at its Arizona factory, where it provided an in-depth look at its latest technological advancements, including the Lucid Gravity SUV. The event also featured an independent review that highlighted the cost benefits of the company’s manufacturing processes. Lucid shared that it has delivered more cars by August 31, 2024, than it did throughout all of 2023.
CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson highlighted the innovations in the upcoming Lucid Gravity SUV, focusing on how Lucid’s advanced technology makes its design possible. He pointed out that the company’s drive unit is a key component, allowing the vehicle to achieve higher performance while reducing costs and mass, making the overall system more efficient compared to competitors.
Lucid also revealed its next-generation drive unit, the Atlas, which is still under development. This unit is expected to bring additional value to both the company and its customers and will be featured in Lucid’s forthcoming midsize platform vehicles. Lucid’s existing drive unit already stands out for its compact design and efficiency, which allows for more interior space and a longer driving range using fewer batteries. Lucid’s proprietary software further enhances the vehicle’s performance through features such as torque vectoring, traction control, and battery management.
Additionally, Lucid announced the latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, known as Lucid UX 2.4. This update enhances the Dream Drive Pro Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), improves voice control capabilities, and refreshes the navigation map design, among other improvements.
Lucid confirmed that its Gravity SUV, expected to enter production later this year, will feature a North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector by 2025. This will provide access to over 15,000 Superchargers, expanding charging options for Lucid customers. The Gravity is expected to include a spacious interior that can accommodate up to seven passengers.
The company also previewed a new midsize crossover vehicle, part of Lucid’s upcoming midsize platform. This vehicle will feature the same range as competitors but with a smaller battery, leveraging Lucid’s technology to maximize efficiency. Production of the midsize vehicle is expected to begin in late 2026, with a starting price under $50,000.
