Kia lifts the cover off its upcoming cargo van

Kia has introduced the exterior design of its PV5 Passenger and PV5 Cargo models in anticipation of the upcoming Kia EV Day, scheduled to take place in Tarragona, Spain. This event will mark the second Kia EV Day and is set for February 24, 2025. The PV5 models were initially previewed by the Concept PV5 at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2024.

The mid-sized PV5 is significant as it represents the first model under Kia’s new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) global business strategy. This initiative aims to transform the concepts of space and mobility, utilizing Kia’s advanced electric vehicle technology. The PV5 is designed to meet the varied needs of customers by offering flexibility and customization through a modular approach.

Kia plans to provide the PV5 in multiple configurations, including the base models: the Passenger Van, which focuses on passenger comfort, and the Cargo Van, optimized for transporting goods. Additional derivative models and specialized variants will be unveiled during the 2025 Kia EV Day.

The design of the Kia PV5 distinguishes itself from traditional light commercial vehicles, featuring a modern aesthetic that prioritizes flexibility and modularity. Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design, stated, “While the PV5 is offered in three different body styles to provide innovative solutions for a diverse range of customer needs, they all embody the same consistent design values inspired by Kia’s design philosophy, Opposites United.”

The front view of both the PV5 Passenger Van and PV5 Cargo Van showcases a bold and futuristic character, characterized by a clean upper area. The integration of signature technical lighting with the vehicle’s A-pillar reflects Kia’s design philosophy, which merges a sleek upper body with a sturdy, technical lower section. The PV5’s design includes black geometric wheel arch claddings and rocker panels that contribute to an off-road-like appearance, while the vehicle’s profile illustrates how Kia’s PBV technology redefines spatial efficiency.

The PV5 Passenger model is noted for its refined geometric profile, which enhances its contemporary look and visibility, thanks to a low beltline and expansive window area. The window area is framed by contrasting black graphic glass surrounds. The design elements, including robust black geometric accents, create a visual continuity with Kia’s SUV lineup, suggesting an off-road capability.

In contrast, the PV5 Cargo Van features a boxier profile that emphasizes space efficiency, maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic. A notable feature of the Cargo model is its twin side-opening tailgate doors, which facilitate easy loading and unloading, allowing for customization based on user needs.

Kia’s 2025 Kia EV Day will provide further insights into the PV5’s product offerings, including derivative models and various conversion options, alongside strategic plans for the PBV business. Detailed design and product features of the PV5 are expected to be officially revealed on February 27, 2025.
