Ford adds Platinum trim level to 2021 Explorer Hybrid SUV

When Ford launched the Explorer Hybrid, it was only available in the Limited trim, which was on the upper end of the spectrum. Now, the Blue Oval has expanded the electrified powertrain’s availability with the addition of the Platinum Hybrid variant for the 2021 Explorer lineup. In addition to AWD, Ford has also made the range-topping Platinum trim available in RWD guise for 2021.

The 2021 Ford Explorer Hybrid uses a 3.3-liter V6 coupled to an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery, and a 10-speed automatic. In total, the hybrid system makes 318 hp and 322 lb-ft of torque. In RWD guise, the Explorer Hybrid is EPA-rated at 27/28/27 mpg city/highway/combined. Opting for AWD drops the fuel economy ratings to 23/26/25 mpg.

If you’re looking for the most luxurious Explorer, the Platinum trim is the way to go. This variant gets satin aluminum door handle inserts, liftgate trim, side cladding inserts, roof rails, and grille to distinguish it from other versions. Platinum models also get additional standard features including a panoramic sunroof, tri-diamond perforated leather upholstery, and a 12-speaker B&O audio system.

The 2021 Ford Explorer Hybrid Platinum is now available for order at your local Ford dealer.
