EVgo and Toyota launch new fast charging stations in CA

EVgo Inc., a prominent provider of public fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, has partnered with Toyota Motor North America to announce the opening of new DC fast charging stations in Baldwin Park and Sacramento, California. These stations are part of Toyota’s “Empact” vision, which aims to enhance the availability of charging infrastructure in underserved communities.

The newly established co-branded stations, which are owned and operated by EVgo, are equipped with 350kW fast chargers and can accommodate up to eight vehicles at once. Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo, emphasized the importance of charging availability for potential electric vehicle buyers, stating, “Availability of charging is essential as consumers consider buying or leasing an EV.” He noted that collaboration with automakers has been a key aspect of EVgo’s expansion strategy.

The “Empact” vision, first introduced in April 2023, focuses on providing access to charging, affordable mobility solutions, and reducing carbon emissions. The new stations aim to offer convenient charging options for local residents and visitors.

James George, General Manager of EV Charging Solutions at Toyota, remarked on the collaboration, stating, “Together with EVgo, we are supporting broader access to charging infrastructure for all battery EV drivers.” The stations are strategically located in areas that provide easy access to various amenities such as grocery stores and shopping centers.

In addition to the new charging stations, EVgo has extended a program with Toyota that offers one year of complimentary charging for customers who purchase or lease the 2025 Toyota bZ4X battery electric vehicle. The Toyota App will assist users in locating EVgo stations and activating the complimentary charging feature.

Local officials have expressed support for the new infrastructure. State Senator Angelique Ashby noted that the fast charging stations would enhance clean energy transportation in Sacramento, while State Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio highlighted the benefits for Baldwin Park residents and visitors, emphasizing the positive impact on air quality.
