Kia America, Inc. has announced a recall affecting specific models of their vehicles due to potential issues with air bag and seat belt deployment. The recall, identified by NHTSA Campaign Number 25V024000, includes certain 2023-2025 Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid vehicles.
The problem arises from the floor wiring assembly located beneath the front passenger seat, which may sustain damage. This damage could lead to improper deployment of the front air bags and seat belts, or it may cause an unintended activation of the side curtain air bags during a collision.
The company has reported that approximately 80,255 units are potentially impacted by this defect. To address the issue, Kia will inspect the affected vehicles and replace or reroute the wiring assembly as needed, at no cost to the owners. Additionally, wiring covers will be installed to mitigate the risk of future occurrences. Notification letters to vehicle owners are anticipated to be sent out on March 14, 2025.
