Chevrolet Bolt comeback targets value with faster charging and tech

Chevrolet is bringing back the Bolt, answering customer demand with a limited run that targets affordability and everyday usability. The 2027 Bolt LT launches at $29,990 including $1,395 destination freight charge, with a later LT starting at $28,995 including destination. GM estimates 255 miles of range. Shipping to customers begins early next year, and availability at Chevrolet dealers starts in the first quarter of 2026. Bolt rejoins the Equinox EV, which Chevy calls one of the market’s best-selling EVs, and together they are expected to account for most of Chevrolet’s 2026 EV volume. “The Chevrolet Bolt was the industry’s first affordable mass-market, long-range EV and it commanded one of GM’s most loyal customer bases thanks to its price, versatility and practicality,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet. “After production ended, we heard our customer’s feedback and their love for this product. So the Bolt is coming back—by popular demand and better than ever—for a limited time.”

Headline specs center on value and charging. Peak DC fast-charging exceeds 150 kW, enabling a 10 to 80 percent charge in 26 minutes, and the 2027 Bolt is the first Chevrolet with a native NACS port. An available Super Cruise driver assistance system joins more than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features, including Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking. Vehicle-to-Home bidirectional capability is included when paired with a GM Energy Home System.

Under the skin, the X76 electric drive unit was designed in-house to prioritize efficiency and cost. The permanent-magnet motor uses minimal rare-earth materials, segmented magnets help reduce heat build-up and energy loss, and a silicon carbide inverter minimizes losses between battery and drive unit. The Bolt employs blended regenerative braking to maximize energy recovery and a pedal feel optimized across regen and friction braking.

Inside, the driver-centric cabin is anchored by an 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen with Google built-in and an 11-inch driver information center. Google Maps integrates range data, smarter routes, and charging recommendations, and can precondition the battery when DC fast charging is on the route. Super Cruise syncs with Google Maps to display hands-free routes and lane guidance at exits. “Hey Google” voice assistance manages comfort and connectivity, and while parked or charging, in-vehicle entertainment apps such as Angry Birds, Chrome, GameSnacks, HBO Max, Tubi, and Prime Video are available. Convenience features include an open console, new passenger dash storage, multiple USB-C ports, available wireless phone charging, an available panoramic sunroof, and available heated steering wheel plus heated and ventilated front seats.

Styling updates preserve the hatchback’s practicality while expanding choice. Seven exterior colors and 17-inch wheels in three finishes are offered. A new RS trim adds unique grille badging, high-gloss black wheels and roof rails, and an exclusive Atomic Yellow exterior with red interior accent stitching. “Fans love the space and practicality of the Bolt’s roomy hatchback layout,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. The 2027 Chevy Bolt will be assembled with domestically and globally sourced parts at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas.
