$14B investment fuels Toyota’s battery manufacturing in US

Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) is set to commence production at its new battery manufacturing facility, marking the company’s first in-house battery plant outside of Japan. The facility is scheduled to begin shipping batteries for North American electrified vehicles in April.

This nearly $14 billion investment represents Toyota’s 11th manufacturing plant in the United States and will focus on the production of batteries for various types of electrified vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and battery electric vehicles. The operation is expected to create approximately 5,000 jobs in the region.

The establishment of this battery plant aligns with Toyota’s strategy of investing locally and producing within the community, which aims to provide products that meet local demands. To date, Toyota has invested a total of $49 billion in the U.S., supporting over 280,000 jobs across the industry. The company intends to continue its contributions to the local economy through ongoing job creation and investment initiatives.
